What it is
The Station G2 is a fixed base-station board from B&Q Consulting (UnitEng): an ESP32-S3 WROOM-1 with an SX1262 radio, an external power amplifier (35 dBm claimed) and a low-noise receive amplifier, a 1.3 inch OLED, an optional Grove GPS, and power from USB-C PD or a 9-19 V external supply. Meshtastic's page states: "The Station G2 is discontinued... no longer available for purchase."
Who it suits
Best for: if you find one second-hand, a fixed indoor or rooftop base station on a stable supply.
Not for: new purchases (it is discontinued), or compliance by default in the UK.
UK 868 MHz notes
The listed range is 864-928 MHz, which is a hardware tuning range, not a legal band. For the UK use the EU_868 region (869.4-869.65 MHz), never 915 MHz. See Buy the right frequency.
The arithmetic (ours): e.r.p. = TX power in dBm + antenna gain in dBi - 2.15 - cable loss.
| Antenna | e.r.p. at the claimed 35 dBm | 500 mW slot (869.40-869.65 MHz) |
|---|---|---|
| 0 dBi | 32.85 dBm = 1.9 W | Over |
| 2 dBi | 34.85 dBm = 3.1 W | Over |
The Meshtastic firmware for the board sets SX126X_MAX_POWER 19, with a comment about keeping the PA below its saturation output power. What that means for RF output at the antenna port we could not establish: B&Q's wiki could not be read. If the setting is reported at the antenna port, Meshtastic's 27 dBm EU_868 cap still applies, but that cap ignores antenna gain.
Firmware
- Meshtastic: supported, per Meshtastic's page.
- MeshCore: supported ("UnitEng Station G2" in the flasher catalog;
station_g2in the repository). - RNode / Reticulum: not listed in the Reticulum manual and no RNode board definition found. Status unconfirmed.
Known quirks
We found no documented quirks. The main caution is the unconfirmed RF output described above.
Power
No reliable current figure is published. The board is mains or USB-PD powered, so it is a fixed-station design rather than a battery one.
