What it is

The Heltec Mesh Node T114 pairs an nRF52840 microcontroller with an SX1262 LoRa radio. It has Bluetooth 5 LE but no Wi-Fi. A 1.14 inch TFT and a GNSS module are optional extras rather than part of the base board. Heltec sells it in 433, 470-510, 863-870 and 902-928 MHz versions.

Heltec's product page lists only Rev 2.0 of the board. We did not confirm whether other revisions are sold elsewhere, so check which revision a listing is selling.

Who it suits

Best for: a low-power solar or battery repeater that you manage over Bluetooth, and for anyone who wants the nRF52 power profile in a Heltec form factor.

Not for: anyone who needs Wi-Fi. If you want an onboard GPS out of the box, look at a Wireless Tracker or T-Beam Supreme.

UK 868 MHz notes

Buy the 863-870 MHz (868) version, not 902-928 MHz. We did not capture Heltec's exact SKU wording for it, so check the listing. See Buy the right frequency.

The arithmetic (ours): e.r.p. = TX power in dBm + antenna gain in dBi - 2.15 - cable loss.

Antenna e.r.p. at 21 dBm 25 mW sub-bands 500 mW slot (869.40-869.65 MHz)
0 dBi 18.85 dBm = 77 mW Over Within
2 dBi 20.85 dBm = 122 mW Over Within

Ofcom IR 2030 v1.16 (published 7 April 2026) allows 25 mW e.r.p. in most of the band and 500 mW e.r.p. at 869.40-869.65 MHz with a 10% duty cycle or listen-before-talk. Meshtastic's EU_868 region (869.4-869.65 MHz) sits in that slot.

Firmware

  • Meshtastic: supported.
  • MeshCore: supported ("Heltec T114" in the flasher catalog; heltec_t114 in the repository).
  • RNode / Reticulum: supported. The Reticulum manual lists the Heltec T114, and RNode_Firmware defines a model for it covering 863-928 MHz.

Flashing: Flash Meshtastic, Flash MeshCore, RNode and Reticulum setup.

Known quirks

  • To enter the bootloader, double-click the reset button and drop a UF2 file on the drive that appears. nRF52 boards need no serial driver.
  • Meshtastic's firmware assumes an L76K GNSS module for the optional GPS connector.
  • Attach the antenna before power.

Power

Heltec claims an 11 uA deep-sleep current. Heltec's product page also lists these figures under "Electrical characteristics": GPS off and TFT off about 9 mA; TFT on about 20 mA; GPS on and TFT on about 51 mA; and tracker-mode sleep about 22 uA. Heltec does not define the test state (for example, whether the radio is receiving or idle), so treat them as vendor figures, not a verified idle or receive current. Measure your own node. See Power for power-bank cut-off traps, which matter most for low-draw nRF52 nodes.
