What it is
This is a Seeed Studio kit that pairs a XIAO ESP32-S3 module with a Wio-SX1262 LoRa module. Meshtastic's page describes it as 21 x 18 mm, with Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth 5 LE, 8 MB of flash and 8 MB of PSRAM, a U.FL connector with a 2 dBi antenna included, a radio rated 862-930 MHz, pre-flashed Meshtastic and an optional 3D-printed enclosure. Seeed's store lists no battery and no screen, and an optional L76K GNSS module.
Who it suits
Best for: a very cheap, tiny test node or hidden node on USB power.
Not for: anyone who wants a charge-and-go battery node, or GPS without soldering or extra modules.
UK 868 MHz notes
The 862-930 MHz figure is the hardware tuning range, not a legal UK band. The kit appears to be a single-band listing, so we could not find 868-specific SKU naming; set the EU_868 region in firmware and never 915 MHz for the UK. See Buy the right frequency.
We found no stated maximum transmit power. The arithmetic (ours):
e.r.p. (dBm) = conducted TX (dBm) + antenna gain (dBi) - 2.15 - cable loss (dB)
For the 2 dBi antenna in the kit, conducted power must be at most about 27.1 dBm to stay within the UK limit of 500 mW e.r.p. at 869.40-869.65 MHz. In most other 868 MHz sub-bands the limit is 25 mW e.r.p., so the radio must sit in that slot. Meshtastic's EU_868 region (869.4-869.65 MHz, 10% duty cycle) does. Limits are from Ofcom IR 2030 v1.16 (published 7 April 2026).
Firmware
- Meshtastic: supported (pre-flashed on the kit).
- MeshCore: supported ("Seeed Studio Xiao S3 WIO" in the flasher catalog;
xiao_s3_wioin the repository). - RNode / Reticulum: RNode_Firmware defines a model for the XIAO ESP32S3 + Wio-SX1262 at 868 MHz, but the Reticulum manual's hardware list does not name it.
Flashing: Flash Meshtastic, Flash MeshCore, RNode and Reticulum setup.
Known quirks
The Wio-SX1262 in this kit does not have the same pin configuration as the one in the XIAO nRF52840 kit, so do not mix the modules. Attach the antenna before power.
Power
No reliable current figure is published for this kit that we could find. Measure your own node. See Power.
